Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters (set 1)
The evil Reptilons are holding humans hostage on Planet X; one or two players must warp onto the planet and rescue them, destroying the swathes of enemy robot monsters that bar their way. players are armed with laser guns and a finite number of bombs. Hostages are rescues by simply touching them, but players must be careful not to accidentally shoot the hostages. Food can be found in storage lockers and will increase the players' energy levels. Some robots leave gems behind when they are destroyed, and these can be picked-up to give the players a weapon boost.
Robot Monsters is a colourful, comic book-esque and humorous pastiche of the classic sci-fi B-movie genre. The game has a similar feel to Atari's own arcade legend, "Gauntlet", although the scrolling levels of Robot Monsters are viewed from a 3-D isometric viewpoint.

Bugs:
- eprom, eprom2: [possible] There seem to be a couple very minor graphical issues with this game. Darkk (ID 01156)
WIP:
- 0.142u6: Force TMS5220 OLDP and OLDE to be updated only on the A subcycle of IP=0 PC=0; this has no effect whatsoever on the output, it is merely to better document how the chip works [Lord Nightmare]. Emulate TMS5220 circuit 412 from the patent, which should prevent spurious clicks on interpolation-inhibited frame transitions; This may improve some clicking in EPROM/EPROMa [Lord Nightmare].
- 0.139u1: Aaron Giles changed atarigen_state to be a base class from which all the related Atari drivers derive their state from.
- 0.137u3: Lord Nightmare switched 'Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters' to use the new TMS5220 interface. This fixed garbled speech in Canal Mazes, as well as some other garbled speech in game (when saying 'throwing switch' for instance).
- 0.137u2: Replaced TMS5220 sound with TMS5220C.
- 0.135u4: Some more Atari driver shuffling [Aaron Giles]: Added atarigen_init() function which allocates all timers and registers for save states. Updated all drivers to call it. Converted some drivers to use device timers.
- 0.135u3: Aaron Giles converted atari drivers over to using driver_data for the most part. Some shared systems still exist with globals, but this tackles the atarigen module and the variables local to each driver.
- 0.132u1: Phil Bennett fixed rom names in EPROM (set 1/2).
- 0.128u6: Nicola Salmoria added missing graphical brightness effect to EPROM.
- 9th July 2008: Mr. Do - Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters now has the original bezel, scanned by Anoid.
- 0.122u4: Changed M6502 CPU3 clock speed to 1789772 Hz, YM2151 to 3579545 Hz and TMS5220 to 650826 Hz.
- 8th July 2007: Mr. Do - Zorg gives us a beautiful conversion bezel for Escape From the Planet of Robot Monsters.
- 0.114u2: Aaron Giles and Couriersud added more accurate video timing to most of the Atari 68000-era games. The parameters are from published specs, not derived. The board uses a SYNGEN chip to generate video signals. Changed VSync to 59.922743 Hz.
- 0.114: Couriersud added save state to EPROM (set 1) and (set 2) and general save state support to the atarijsa and atarigen modules.
- 0.113u3: Zsolt Vasvari bumped interleave, this fixed TMS5220 speech output.
- 0.106u12: MASH added plds ($0, 200, 400, 600, 800, a00 - gal16v8-136069.100t, gal16v8-136069.100v, gal16v8-136069.50f, gal16v8-136069.50p, gal16v8-136069.55p and gal16v8-136069.70j).
- 0.105u4: Fixed rom names.
- 0.79u1: Cleaned up EPROM driver [Aaron Giles].
- 6th November 2002: Aaron Giles updated the EPROM driver to handle sprite/background priorities correctly.
- 0.37b15: Changed M6502 CPU3 clock speed to 1789500, YM2151 to 3579000 and TMS5220 to 650727 Hz.
- 0.36RC1: Changed the 2x 68000 CPU1 clock speeds to 7159090 Hz, M6502 to 1789772 Hz, YM2151 to 3579545 Hz and TMS5220 to 650826 Hz.
- 0.36b1: Replaced MC68010 CPUs1/2 with 68000.
- 0.35b13: Replaced 68000 CPUs1/2 with MC68010.
- 10th May 1999: Aaron Giles correct graphics priority system for EPROM.
- 0.35b11: Aaron Giles added clone 'Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters (set 2)'. Added Pokey sound. Changed parent description to 'Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters (set 1)'.
