Last Survivor (Japan, FD1094 317-0083)

Arcade 1989 Sega Shooter Field
You are with up to 2 players trapped in a maze with a load of other tough guys and monsters. You have a single key to the exit of the maze. To get out you need four keys. The only way to get them off other players is to kill them. First one to exit the maze wins.

Each player has a separate screen that shows, roughly, a fist person view of the maze. You can move right/left, up/down along the corridors and also rotate. You also have a weapon, a kind of gun that you can get upgraded if you stop at the shop in the maze and have earned enough money by creaming the resident enemies on that level. Here you can also buy extra speed and armor that will absorb a few hits.

There are also map pillars that, when you bump into them, show the layout of the level and the location of everyone else within it.

WIP:
- 0.146u5: Added 'Last Survivor (Japan, FD1094 317-0083)' (Sega 1989). Added generic coincounter (generic_iochip0_lamps_w). YM2151 stereo is reversed [hap].
- 17th August 2012: Charles MacDonald - Thanks to ShouTime we finally got Last Survivor dumped and emulated. It's a good reminder that there are still working FD1094 CPUs out there, and we do need to get them dumped as soon as possible. Between this and Bullet we have had good fortune finding rare games, so who knows, maybe we'll find Charon next.
- 3rd August 2012: Aaron Giles - What, you may ask, could cause me to post something on my blog after being dormant for over 3 years? The appearance of an extremely rare game is what. Last Survivor is a game that was mentioned once in a magazine article, was ported a couple of times, and did have an arcade release in Japan. But quite honestly, in the 14 years since I've been working on MAME, we have never, ever seen one come up for sale or auction. That is, until a couple of weeks ago, when one appeared on a Japanese auction site. Even more amazing, it was still working! Which is quite the shock since it runs on Sega's X-Board Hardware, and features the evil FD1094 CPU, which contains an encryption key in RAM that is kept alive by a battery. If that battery were to die, the contents of that RAM would be lost forever. Now, I don't know if the battery is original from 1989 or if it has been since replaced, but either way, getting our hands on a working version of this game was seeming like a more and more remote possibility. But fortunately, someone took good care of this board and we were able to get a clean dump.
- 19th July 2012: Smitdogg - The Sega board we got from the akward fundraiser is Last Survivor.
- 11th July 2012: Smitdogg - Here's the deal... There is an insanely rare 1980s Sega game for sale. I spotted it a few days ago and was going to do a DU fundraiser. A few hours later I got word that a collector we are friends with is bidding on it and already has more money for it than I could reasonably raise. I'm not doing a DU fundraiser because DU funds buy boards that get resold and this is going to a dude's collection indefinitely. The game will sell for at least $1,100 at the very least. There is no telling what the ceiling would be because it has never been seen before. Anyway, again, the collector we know is buying it for himself to keep so this is not a DU fundraiser where I buy a game and dump it and resell for recycle funds. In fact you wouldn't send me any money at all. So I understand passing on the situation. On the other hand if you pledge money would raise our chances of getting the dump and it's probably our only chance of ever getting it. If he wins he will dump it for us for sure and it's someone who has dumped a decent amount of things for us in the past so... Anyway like I was saying...awkward. Your choice. Maybe you don't care about resells/recycle funding so.
