Sets of colored jewels fall in random order. The object of the game is to arrange the jewels vertically, horizontally or diagonally in rows of three or more to make them disappear.

- 0.80u1: Mariusz Wojcieszek improved ST-V scaling tilemap backgrounds. The backgrounds in Columns '97 are better now.
- 0.76u2: Status - Columns 97 has miscoloured sprites and background not correctly scaled.
- 0.76u1: More ST-V improvements, fixing various graphical issues (Shienryu Sprite Colours) and general other bits and pieces. More games are 'watchable' now, for example Cotton 2, Cotton Boomerang, Puyo Puyo Sun, Columns 97 however they lack controls [David Haywood].
