Outfoxies (World, OU2)

Arcade 1994 Namco Platform Fighter
A platform 'versus' shoot'em up in which either one player (playing against the computer) or two players (playing against each other) attempt to destroy each other by any means necessary. The levels themselves are interesting and varied, with airships, planes etc. providing a detailed and highly interactive backdrop in which the players do battle. That interactivity is increased further with the introduction of destructible sections which, when blown up, can often open up new areas or rooms. Each level is littered with a variety of weapons that can be picked up and utilized by the player(s). Graphically, Outfoxies employed superb sprite scale and rotation techniques that elevated the already fun gameplay still further. The aeroplane level, for instance, dips and sways, bringing problems of inertia and gravity to the platform action. Also; the in-game camera zooms in and out of the level, depending on how far away the two opponents are from each other. Playable characters range from a monkey to a pair of psychotic school children, with each character choice offering the player different aptitudes (the monkey can jump higher, for example). A fun enough game in one-player mode, Outfoxies really came into its own when two human protagonists took part.

WIP:
- 0.133u2: Changed description to 'Outfoxies (World, OU2)' and clone to 'Outfoxies (Japan, OU1)'. Fixed rom names.
- 0.133u1: Renamed (outfxesj) to (outfxiesj).
- 0.127u4: R. Belmont changed Outfoxies to use real C75 Namco NB-BIOS, read controls the real hardware way. Replaced pr1data.8k with C75.bin.
- 0.126u4: Guru added README for The Outfoxies.
- 26th July 2008: Mr. Do - Funny story. Tormod sent me a BUNCH of instruction cards a long time ago. You've probably been seeing them added in every so often. Well, around July of last year, I had completed a whole bunch of them, but then had a computer crash, and they ended up on the "spare" hard drive by mistake. I found them again going through a cleanup. So thanks to Tormod, this week we have Outfoxies.
- 15th September 2005: R. Belmont - I fixed the incorrect speech in Outfoxies, Great Sluggers and Super World Stadium.
- 0.79u1: Phil Stroffolino added preliminary support for screen blanking (hides garbage in Outfoxies), fixes the water effects by adding proper POSIRQ handling for scanline effects and removed a sprite stretch glitch (affects Outfoxies intro). Added dipswitches 'Freeze Screen' and 'Alternate Test Switch'.
- 0.68: Changed description of clone to 'Outfoxies (Japan)'.
- 0.67: Changed description of clone to 'The Outfoxies (Japan)'.
- 0.61: Brian Troha added clone Outfoxies (Japan).
- 7th May 2002: Phil Stroffolino fixed Outfoxies graphics which broke when fixing the Mach Breakers graphics.
- 0.60: Phil Stroffolino added Outfoxies (Namco 1994).
- 30th March 2002: Brian Troha submitted the additions of a Japan version of Outfoxies to the Namco NB-2 driver.
- 29th January 2002: Phil Stroffolino added proper rotation and zooming into the Namco NB-2 driver, making Outfoxies look much better and it is now also playable.
- 19th January 2002: Phil Stroffolino sent in a new version of the Namco NB-2 driver, adding preliminary graphics emulation. However, it is nowhere near perfect, there is no sound and controls are not yet working due to an unemulated MCU.
- 14th November 2001: Phil Stroffolino sent in a Namco NB-2 driver with support for Outfoxies but it isn't much to look at since the graphics ROMs aren't dumped.
- 18th August 2001: Guru - A ultra-rare Outfoxies (Namco 1994, NB-2) arrived from Pelle. It has some surface-mounted ROMs on it, so it will take some time to dump it.
